Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Paul Ahaus. Paul has been a committed volunteer with the Habitat affiliate in Johnston County for three years. In November 2015, Paul was presented the Outstanding Volunteer award for his dedication to the 22nd home build in Selma. Paul’s first time participating with the organization was almost 25 years ago. After installing siding on a duplex in the Chicago area, and remodeling two homes, Paul was immediately drawn to Habitat's mission.

Paul encourages individuals of all skill sets to participate, regardless of experience level, “Habitat will teach you, and the value of a volunteer's time is immeasurable to the new homeowner. Habitat also fosters teamwork, which brings people from all walks of life together working toward a single goal.” Paul enjoys witnessing the progression of those skill sets throughout the construction process.

When asked what attracted him to working with Habitat, Paul accredited his passion for home improvement. “Habitat provides me an avenue to learn from and teach others to do the same, while ‘paying it forward’. ”

Paul also recognizes fellow hard-working hands at the affiliate. “The volunteers at Habitat are top notch with their generosity and have their hearts in the right place. They treat the homes they build as their own, taking pride in their work and providing a quality home for the homeowner.”

“Money may buy the materials, but Teamwork, Sweat and Pride provide a home.” -Paul Ahaus

The Habitat for Humanity of Johnston County thank Paul for his continuous support, genuine care, and hard work!
